NAY PALAD HIDEAWAY

The Best Eco-Luxury Resort in the Philippines

Tucked away on the Southside of Siargao Island, Nay Palad Hideaway once known as Dedon Island Resort offers a home away from home like none other.  There lies a very special meaning in the name of the resort.  Nay which stems from the Filipino word ‘Nanay’ or Mother and Palad which means ‘Palm,’ Nay Palad makes you feel very nurtured while here, much like a mother to her child.  Nay Palad is an all-inclusive resort that embraces a barefoot luxury state of mind, and with 24/7 attentiveness you are able to fulfill all your getaway desires without ever having to open your wallet.

A cinematic tour of Nay Palad Hideaway, Siargao, Philippines

You know you’re in for some luxurious pampering when they first pick you up from the airport. Cool, wet towels scented with essential oils are handed to you with such welcoming charm. Dried fruits and nuts with bottled mineral water await you in your private transfer. Upon arrival, you’re greeted by the main staff of Nay Palad at the white towering entrance gates beautifully decorated with coconut husk planters.

You are then introduced to the main staff (the resort Manager, resident Chef, Spa Coordinator, and your very own Adventure Manager) who would then help you curate your own ‘made-to-measure’ experience at Nay Palad.

As you’ll quickly find out, routines are boring here so Nay Palad lets you write your own story each day.  Whether it’s making your own cocktail at the bar or helping the resident Chef in the kitchen with a new recipe, Nay Palad truly makes you feel at home.

The overall design of the resort features dark wood floors and neutral furnishings.  Smooth white sand walkways lead you to your coconut-fringed villa.  The master villa which is called Perlah features a stunning 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom private beachfront villa with your own private pool, a huge koi pond, an indoor lounge and media room, an outdoor lounge area with a bonfire, and a treehouse cabana.  Worth mentioning here is one of the bathrooms was designed as an oversized room with double vanities and a huge rain shower meant to indulge in.

There’s the main dining area in front of the communal pool and a casual open-air bar that is right on the beachfront for you to take in the views while sipping on fresh calamansi, mint, and ginger juice.  All meals can be had wherever your heart pleases.  You ask, they deliver.  There is no set menu for each day as everything is customizable to what your palette desires. Two things our palettes loved: the ceviché and the chocolate chip cookies. The best we’ve ever had in all our travels!

There’s an endless list of activities available for adults and children alike. Some of them include:

  •  Surfing at Cloud 9
  • Excursions to Sohoton Lagoon and cave
  • Stand up paddle in the mangroves behind the resort
  • Island hopping in Nay Palad’s private cruise boat to other remote islands where you can have a private picnic on a beautiful sandbank
  • If you’re seeking some R&R on the resort itself, yoga with a wonderful instructor or the spa with expert therapists await you to alleviate all your stresses.

Nay Palad has a great standing with hotel goers ranking it a 9.9 out of 10!

All the luxurious features aside, Nay Palad isn’t a 6-star resort for no small reason.  With a strong focus on sustainability, Nay Palad doesn’t fall short in paying it forward. Nay Palad Founder and CEO Carolin Dekeyser followed in her father’s footsteps to continue his legacy of giving back to the people of the Philippines.  Dekeyser&Friends Foundation finances and supports projects related to social change around the world.  This is what makes Nay Palad the best eco-luxury resort in the Philippines.   The foundation has created an amazing initiative called the Compostela Project.  Compostela was created in order to help people who were living on a dumpsite in Cebu Philippines build better sustainable lives.  The project has created a home for the villagers to learn skills such as farming and animal husbandry.  In order to break the cycle of poverty, Compostela focuses on education.  Children attend a local public school and the staff empower the children and their families by helping them understand the importance of education and its impact on building a brighter future.  The staff also offer one-on-one guidance and support along with additional workshops on health, hygiene, and social skills.

The Compostela Project also empowers women through social entrepreneurship who are unable to leave their children to go to work.  They are called the ‘Mothers of Compostela.’  Dekeyser & Friends create job opportunities to enable women to utilize their skills in handicrafts and teach new ones such as sewing, jewelry making, and entrepreneurship.  One of Nay Palad’s collections is made up of handicrafts made by the women of Compostela and it is called “Handmade with Love in Compostela.” While having dinner one night, we received some bread in a breadbasket. The basket was made by one of the ladies at Compostela. It was a touching experience to touch the same basket that someone had so lovingly made with their hands and now it was being utilized. Nay Palad also has its newest collection of textiles, homewares, and accessories. To help support the foundation and give back while enjoying handmade handicrafts, check out their store here.

It is brands like these that create more awareness and positive movements that matter.  Nay Palad is a must-visit resort due to its efforts in helping create a better world and a brighter future.  We are proud to have stayed at Nay Palad to experience world-class hospitality and to learn the vital role it plays in being the best eco-luxury resort in the Philippines.
